3 Day Rainforest Expeditions Lodges - Tambopata Reserve

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado - Posada Amazonas
On arrival from Lima or Cusco, meet and transfer to the Tambopata river port in Puerto Maldonado. Puerto Maldonado is situated at the confluence of the rivers Tambopata and Madre de Dios. This is a growing tropical capital. Its principal activities are gold mining, brazi nut farming, logging, agriculture and ecotourism. After giving a brief guide to the city exploring the main points of interest, we start on a journey of just under two hours by land and then about 1 hour and 30 minutes by boat to Posada Amazonas. Depending on the time of arrival of the aircraft, we will have a boxed lunch on the boat or lunch on our arrival at the lodge. During the trip we can see some typical bird species of the river such as rayadores, playeritos, crowned herons, jabirus, falcon, kingfisher, swallows and trap. On arrival at Posada Amazonas we unpack and get familiar with the lodge. Posada Amazonas is a lodge of 30 rooms that provides comfort without interrupting with the environment. The lodge belongs to the Native Community of Tambopata Ese'eja and Rainforest Expeditions is the tour operator operating for over 20 years. Receive a brief introductory talk about the ecotourism project, unique in its kind, as well as the general purpose of the lodge and the trails, before proceeding to our afternoon activity: observation tower of the forest canopy (canopy) of 35 meters, located 15 minutes walk from the lodge. The scaffolding tower is built so that you can climb in easily and safely, using the internal staircase with verandas on each side, and the rest in their small platforms located at 2 meters. From the top you can see not only spectacular views of the river and its surroundings, it is also an excellent opportunity to observe birds from the canopy of trees, including toucans, parrots and macaws. Return to the lodge and dinner. Video about the Tambopata Reserve Zone-Candamo or a night walk (L,D)

Day 2: Posada Amazonas
We will rise at dawn to visit the Three Lake Chimbas. After an early breakfast we depart fifteen minutes by boat and a half hour walk which leads us to the lake. From here, a native catamaran and two rowers take us back to a quiet lake to appreciate the wildlife lake at its peak activity. Look for turtles, birds, river, the peculiar shansho, and maybe even river wolves, known as the largest freshwater otters in the world. Once upon a time they were hunted extensively for its thin skin, are now the best populations are found in southeastern Peru. As we approach daylight, animal activity decreases, and it is time to return to the lodge in time to visit a small colpa of lorikeets located a short walk from the lodge. Dozens and sometimes even hundreds of blue-headed parrots, cobalt-winged parakeets, and sometimes even the odd parakeet from the rocks, all gather here at daylight to clear food from the colpa clay. This congregation creates a noisy and colourful wildlife spectacle where the green, orange, red and blue parakeets dance around the colpa, while others end up pecking and eating, this show can last for hours. Then we go back to the lodge for lunch before leaving for our activity in the afternoon,an ethno-botany hike. In this activity, we visit the Community Center Ethnobotanical NAVITAS of Hell, located 15 minutes by boat from our lodge. Hike the trails around the centre with a native guide, who will explain everyday customs that the community gives to the plants of the forest, in medicine, construction, food, fibres etc. Then back to the lodge for dinner, an optional night walk to look for amphibians and insects, or video.
