Puerto Maldonado is situated at the confluence of the rivers Tambopata and Madre de Dios. This is a growing tropical capital. Its principal activities are gold mining, brazi nut farming, logging, agriculture and ecotourism. After giving a brief guide to the city exploring the main points of interest, we start on a journey of just under two hours by land and then about 1 hour and 30 minutes by boat to Posada Amazonas. Depending on the time of arrival of the aircraft, we will have a boxed lunch on the boat or lunch on our arrival at the lodge. During the trip we can see some typical bird species of the river such as rayadores, playeritos, crowned herons, jabirus, falcon, kingfisher, swallows and trap. On arrival at Posada Amazonas we unpack and get familiar with the lodge. Posada Amazonas is a lodge of 30 rooms that provides comfort without interrupting with the environment. The lodge belongs to the Native Community of Tambopata Ese'eja and Rainforest Expeditions is the tour operator operating for over 20 years. Receive a brief introductory talk about the ecotourism project, unique in its kind, as well as the general purpose of the lodge and the trails, before proceeding to our afternoon activity: observation tower of the forest canopy (canopy) of 35 meters, located 15 minutes walk from the lodge. The scaffolding tower is built so that you can climb in easily and safely, using the internal staircase with verandas on each side, and the rest in their small platforms located at 2 meters. From the top you can see not only spectacular views of the river and its surroundings, it is also an excellent opportunity to observe birds from the canopy of trees, including toucans, parrots and macaws. Return to the lodge and dinner. Video about the Tambopata Reserve Zone-Candamo or a night walk

Day 7: Puerto Maldonado
Early morning wake to visit the Lake. We can observe the birds, who leave in search of food, and with a little luck, a river wolf, whic is an endangered species. The early morning is the best time to see wildlife and get very good photographs. It is worth mentioning that during the Day, by the prevailing heat, the birds prefer to remain in the shade and visitors can see not much.
Return to the lodge for breakfast and then walk along the trails around the lodge with its varieties of medicinal plants among other flora and fauna. After lunch, time to rest and prepare to visit the eastern part of the lake where you can appreciate one or more of the five species of monkeys that live in the area highlighting the Capuchin.

Return to the lodge for dinner and, if requested we are able to make a return visit to the Lake to see black caiman or trek through primary forest and hear the night sounds of the jungle.

Day 8: Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast departure to the Madre de Dios River to take a canoe that will transport us to Puerto Maldonado and there will be transfer to the airport for flight to Lima and / or connecting flight to Cusco.
