4 Day Collanes Valley

4 days / 3 nights
Nature (Flora & Fauna) - Trekking.

Mount Altar is an extinct volcano whose collapsed caldron is rimmed by horseshoe-shaped peaks which open towards the Collanes Valley. Inside the crater, there is the Yellow Lake, which is surrounded by formidable glaciers. Approaching the base of Mount Altar is an incredibly unique experience. We will camp in the Collanes Valley at the base of its imposing presence.

Day 1: Departure from the hotel, traveling along the Avenue of the Volcanoes until we get to Riobamba. Lunch in Riobamba. Trip to Sangay National Park. Arrival at the Hacienda Releche, time to relax in the hacienda. Dinner.

Day 2: Breakfast time. Prepare the equipment and separate the gear that will be carried by the mules, start the hike, walk for 5 hours until arriving at Collanes campsite. There will be stops along the way to enjoy the countryside and eat snacks and fruit. Arrival at the Collanes campsite and a small snack. Set up camp/settle into cabins. Dinner time

Day 3: Breakfast time. Getting ready before hiking, starting the hike across the Collanes Valley, passing through rivers, rock gardens, and highland fields until arriving at the Yellow Lake of Collanes. Arrival at Yellow Lake, time to enjoy the spectacular view and learn the names of the different peaks of Mount Altar, and then a box lunch. Depending on weather conditions, we may
or may not be able to walk a little farther toward the Tabernáculo, or Tabernacle Peak. Return hike to campsite. Arrival at campsite. Dinner time
