4 Day Salta and the Northwest

(4 days / 3 nights)

The beautifully preserved colonial city of Salta is a perfect base from which to see the varied landscapes of the area, or to take the magical 'Train to the Clouds,' which climbs in switchbacks and spirals to the Chilean frontier high in the Andes. North of Salta, the high, windswept altiplano is punctuated by stark volcanic peaks and saltwater lakes. A bird watcher's paradise, the waters of the altiplano are often tinged pink by huge flocks of flamingos, while condors, ibises and many other species of birds also make the arid expanses their home. The southwest part of the region basks in a gentle climate ideal for wine production and is easily visited from the many estancias near Salta.
