RSA´s Buenos Aires, Colonial Salta and Northwest Wine Region tour will first take us to Buenos Aires. From there, we go to Salta (founded by the Spanish in 1582 as an outpost between Buenos Aires and Lima). This region, which is known for its wineries, but that’s not all as Indian folklore, traditions and art mix with Spanish cultural heritage.
This trip can be customized to fit your individual travel dates and any specific requests you may have. Your travel consultant will prepare a customized itinerary for you. We offer a choice of 3, 4, 5-star and deluxe hotels. The Deluxe option is with the Alvear Palace or Four Seasons in Buenos Aires, and a suite at Solar de la Plaza in Salta.
Day 1
Take the overnight flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Day 2
Arrive in Buenos Aires, and transfer to your hotel. Afternoon tour of Buenos Aires, an impressive city that combines the atmosphere of an old European town with the vibrant features of a Latin American capital. In this tour, you will acquire a deep understanding of its characteristics, its history, its architecture, its culture and its best stories. We will visit the center of the city, San Telmo, La Boca, Puerto Madero and Palermo, with stops in Plaza de Mayo, Caminito and La Recoleta.
Note: check-in is normally after 2 pm. Early check-in may be granted subject to availability (not confirmed).
Day 3
Fiesta Gaucha
Full-day excursion to an estancia for a typical barbeque lunch and a folklore/gaucho show. Here we will learn about the customs of the Argentinean gauchos and their abilities on horseback that will leave you breathless. The meat will be cooked a lo gaucho outdoors on the barbeque. Lunch and drinks included. Afternoon, return to Buenos Aires. Operates every day except Tuesday.
Day 4
Day at leisure in Buenos Aires
Evening tango show
At night, you will see an unforgettable tango show performed by the best dancers and singers while enjoying a delicious meal at Esquina Carlos Gardel. This world-famous tango show features the glamour of the 1930s in a romantic and intimate setting. This is the perfect way to leave Buenos Aires, the city of tango. Three-course dinner and Argentinean wine included.
Day 5
Morning transfer to the airport to take the flight to Salta. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Tour of Salta, a charming colonial city with historic and artistic treasures, and a picturesque old-fashioned atmosphere. There is an interesting combination of relics from the Spanish colonial period and the traditions of the indigenous people which are very much alive today. We will visit the Cathedral, San Francisco Church, 9th of July Square, Legislative Palace and San Lorenzo residential district. Return to your hotel.
Day 6
Full-day excursion to Humahuaca Gorge, visiting the city of Jujuy where we will see a beautiful gilded pulpit at the Basilica Church, a masterpiece of art from the colonial period. We will then visit the famous and picturesque Quebrada de Humahuaca, where we can take in the breathtaking beauty of this region. We will stop at various Indian villages along the way, including Purmamarca, Tilcara (Inka Pukara and Archeological Museum) and other charming spots with incredible colorful landscapes. Afternoon return to Salta.
Note: If this day falls on a Wednesday or Saturday, we can replace this tour with the Safari to the Clouds on four-wheel drive vehicles:
We depart at 6 am along the “Way up to the Clouds,” following the railway road of the famous “Train to the Clouds” through Quebrada del Toro up to San Antonio de los Cobres. Next, we cross the Puna along Road 40 and get to Salinas Grandes in Jujuy. Finally, we go down the slope of Cuesta de Lipán to the picturesque town of Purmamarca, at the bottom of the famous Seven-Color Mountain. We return to Salta at around 9:30 pm. Snacks and drinks included.

Day 7
We will embark on a 2-day private excursion through the Calchaqui Valleys. We will drive up to the Cuesta del Obispo, a mountain pass (3,400-meters in altitude), arriving at the small, picturesque indigenous town of Cachi, which lays across a spectacular cactus-covered plateau with magnificent snow-covered mountains ranging behind it. We will then make a short visit to the archeological museum and a small church. Overnight in Cachi at the Hosteria El Cortijo.
Day 8
In the morning, we will set off toward the traditional town of Seclantas and the historical Molinos village. In Molinos, we will visit the vicuńas’ farm. We will then pass by the Moon Valley at Las Flechas Gorge, Angastaco and San Carlos, visiting the vineyards and cellars at Cafayate. On the way back to Salta, we will visit the impressive Gorge of Las Conchas, more than 80 kilometers of magnificent colorful mountains. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel.
Day 9
Transfer to the airport to take the flight to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival there, transfer to the international airport for connecting flight back home.
